Honestly, that seems like just the right amount of adventure for a Sienna.

So much room for the bodies in the third-row storage cavity. Those campers will never know what hit them. There's nothing more grounded to the ground than a shallow grave.

Thing is, there are lots of people who are adventurous in minivans:

Meth cookers

Hippies who can’t afford that brake job on their 200,000 mile 5th owner beater, but can afford that new down sleeping bag

Kidnappers

Teens who are about to loose their driving privileges

Who is Toyota targeting here?

I mean, that nicely mown lawn is awfully close to what appears to be a POND, or some other *shiver* NATURAL body of water! I mean, there might be FISH, or BUGS, or DUCK POOP in that!!! Y’know what; kids, we’re packing up and going back home, you can set the tent up next to the pool like God intended, where there’s good wifi signal and the CCTV cameras can keep an eye on you while I go into the pool-house bathroom to rub one out to thoughts of the neighbor’s 17-year-old daughter in a bikini....

did i go to far?

Agreed. RV =/= Adventure.

They work well for car-camping which is escaping from the usual suburbanite grind but not necessarily adventure. Comparable to going for a bike ride on a recently paved over railroad bed instead of gnarly singletrack on the side of a mountain. Both are intended for bicycles but with a major difference in expectations/results.

I would give them (quite) a bit of credit for taking older vans and actually living out of them. However, that is not the ‘adventure’ Toyota is suggesting in the ad being discussed. Hammer is a bit more focused on Wheeling (going places where 4x4 is not a suggestion but more of a requirement) and I feel my comparison still holds (though I would swap out a full carbon road bike for a walmart special that has had any general maintenance neglected and left outside for the winter). Equipment can make or break a trip/experience or in some of your mentioned examples add to the adventure.

Some might argue that having all the latest and greatest teck and gear and vehicles might actually takes away the adventure.. Compare Ben’s trip through Central America with Clay and his buddies.. I know who I’d rather ride with..

It should be clear that Toyota struggles with English, especially when they’re trying to be cool.

I mean, these are the “grounded to the ground” people after all...

It takes a certain amount of cahones to do what they do and I can appreciate the amount of unknown that they take on with their travels. Hell, part of me envies them.

I tend to shy away from the latest and greatest and go for how cheap I can manage. I did splurge on a pack this year (due to my excessively long torso that almost no-one make a pack for) but everything else I took with me was on hand or purchased at discount if possible.
